Part four of our 2015 NFL Draft review wraps up our trip to the NFL’s southland. This time we look at the NFC’s Southern Division. In what was probably the most underwhelming division in 2014, the draft could make the division more competitive in 2015. Here are this years best draft picks for the NFC South…..
Carolina Panthers:
Best Draft Pick: Auburn running back Cameron Artis-Payne (5th Round)
Why: Even though Artis-Payne was drafted in the fifth round, he fills a huge need for the Panthers. They’ve dealt with a great deal of injuries at the running back position over the last few seasons, plus their depth at the position took a hit when the team parted ways with DeAngelo Williams at season’s end. Artis-Payne should take a load off of this Panthers offense.
Outlook: A strong running game will take pressure off of the Carolina passing game, Artis-Payne should play a part in that.
New Orleans Saints:
Best Draft Pick: Clemson linebacker Stephone Anthony (1st round)
Why: The Saints Defense has been inconsistent at times over the previous two seasons and the linebacker position played a major part in that. Anthony will bring new blood –and hopefully new life- to the position and help improve this Saints Defense.
Outlook: Anthony will contend for a starting position this year.
Atlanta Falcons:
Best Draft Pick: The Falcons had two draft picks worthy of praise this year. Those picks are Clemson outside linebacker Vic Beasley (1st round), and Indiana running back Tevin Coleman (3rd round).
Why: Beasley will boost a fledging Falcons pass rush with his blitzing ability, while Coleman will make up for last year’s failed Steven Jackson experiment.
Outlook: Both players should see significant playing time as rookies.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
Best Draft Pick: Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston (1st round)
Why: Despite all of the question marks coming out of college, Winston is the most NFL ready quarterback in this year’s draft. He played in somewhat of a pro style offense at FSU, and he has a great deal of physical ability.
Outlook: Even though the Bucs have gone through many signal callers over the last few seasons, none of them were franchise players. Winston is being treated as the future of the franchise and he needs to deliver.
